how i got into shu itsuki (oshi-san)
i started playing enstars around sophomore year of high school! at the time, enstars just got released on global servers so i got curious, but never got around to actually playing the game until i saw my sister playing it. my first impression of shu was that "he looks ugly. like REALLY ugly." also i literally called mika plain looking with the only interesting feature that he had was his heterochromia. dawg i was a judgemental 15 year old.
later in like october and getting used to playing enstars casually (my first fav was koga/rei?), i wanted to watch the anime. i think thats when i found out how horribly cringey (in an endearing way) and moe these characters are. all of em are so weird.. like there is something wrong with everyone. especially shu itsuki.. because when the reminiscence marionette lookback episodes came up i freaked the fuck out over exvalk shu. shu was a fussy pristine perfectionist that did everything she could to perfect her art. her short temper was endearing but carried a lot more prim and properness compared to your average anime tsundere character.
i think those reminiscence marionette episodes turned gears in my little teenager head to start enjoying/exploring more toxic dynamics in fiction. the way with mika and nazuna giving up their agency to pursue shu's "valkyrie" and how shu viewed everything she did as an act of love towards them AUGHHH!! i mean i wish i could go on and on about this and that and their lore but i am so bad at words... i envy the people that can view the gorging amounts of valkyrie media and critically analyze them. sorry for being off topic again reader! after staring at shu's ugly face in the anime for a record amount of time, i started to dig deeper. what was a nui? what the hell was the deal with the usa enstars mv?? did shu's voice actor actually sing THAT??? if you know absolutely nothing about enstars and are just seeing these links, i hope you don't go down that rabbithole. i indulged and indulged in so much shu itsuki content and that is where i am today!
